Re/Dress NYC, the only brick & mortar store specializing in plus size vintage clothing as well as contemporary resale opened in Brooklyn on Black Friday 2008.
Brooklyn, NY Dec 8, 2008 - Brooklyn shop owner Deb Malkin, debunks the myth that there is no such thing as plus size vintage clothing with new boutique, Re/Dress NYC.
“Plus size vintage clothing does most certainly exist” declares Deb Malkin owner of Re/Dress NYC, a vintage and resale clothing store specializing in larger sizes. “Most vintage stores completely ignore anyone over a size 8, mindlessly repeating the myth that there isn’t any larger, good quality, vintage clothing to be found, as if it was the great fashion unicorn.”
Re/Dress NYC is a buy * sell * trade resale establishment in the tradition of Beacon’s Closet and Buffalo Exchange, specializing in larger sizes, with a cultivated vintage selection as well. Based on the store’s style, size and seasonal needs, women are offered either 25% of the resale price in cash or 40% store credit for the clothing selected by the Re/Dress NYC staff. In the near future it will be possible to donate any unwanted items to a various women's shelters around NYC who are always in need of plus size clothing for their clients.
Re/Dress NYC offers curvy women the opportunity to ride the green shopping trend that’s sweeping the nation. Plus size women can shop their conscience and promote green living by choosing to recycle their unwanted, good condition clothing, while at the same time as saving money on “new-to-them” styles.
No stranger to the fashion world, Deb Malkin left a job as VP of e-commerce at pure play e-tailer alight.com to pursue her passion of helping full figured women find self expression through fashion. Malkin says “I was determined to find a selection of good quality and good style vintage clothing to fit anyone from a modern size 10 up to at least a size 24. I’ve searched the country for it and filled an over 2000 sq. foot warehouse with pieces from the 1940’s through the 1980’s. We also have the best of contemporary work, play and party clothing from modern day designers and stores like Torrid, Macys, and Svoboda for half off or more of their retail price.” Future events include indie designer trunk shows, re-fashioning vintage workshops, and various body positive themed talks.
Re/Dress NYC is open Thursdays-Saturdays from noon to 9pm and Sundays from noon to 7pm through Winter 2009 and will be expanding to 7 days a week in the Spring. They’re located at 109 Boerum Place in the Boerum Hill section of Brooklyn, NY and can be found online at https://www.redressnyc.com
