Two great plus size fashion forces are teaming up to create a great opportunity for all size 18+ aspiring models/actresses/fashionistas.

Plus Size Models like Crystal Renn, are the hot new fashion focus these days, gracing the pages of magazines like Glamour and V. These women are beautiful and proving that curvier figures are appealing to both the fashion world and the consumer. However, plus size models aren’t always plus size people, as many models are sizes 8, 10, 12… Two great plus size fashion forces are teaming up to expand on the definitions of “beauty” and “model” with an 18PLUS model search running from Feb 1st through Feb 28th 2010.
Re/Dress NYC is Brooklyn’s own unique style house for women sizes 10 + up. As a singular independent vintage & resale store catering to the curvy set, Re/Dress NYC wanted a model search as unique as itself and so decided to focus on highlighting the power, beauty and style of women sizes 18 and above.
Deb Malkin, owner of Re/Dress NYC says, “We feel that our customer is longing to see women whose bodies mirror their own, dressing in an eye catching, flattering and affirming way. We know our incredibly stylish customers, many of whom are a size 18 and up, are tremendously passionate about fashion, self expression and most importantly about loving themselves. We at Re/Dress NYC want to share their voices and secrets with the world. As we’ve seen with Oscar nominee, Gabourey Sidibe, it’s too rare we get to hear from women who dare to love themselves regardless of size.”
Re/Dress NYC paired up with plus size modeling and photography experts Luke Jones of Lucaspictures and Madeline Figueroa Jones, editor-in-chief of PLUS Model Magazine. The model search asks women to send in their pictures as well as a short essay about they love about their body and 3 pieces of advice they’d give to women who are struggling with self love.
One lucky winner will receive a professional model shoot by Lucaspictures, be featured in PLUS Model Magazine and be the first campaign model for RE/DRESS NYC. There are 2 additional prizes to be won, a headshot shoot and a $100 Gift Certificate to Re/Dress NYC.
Contest Date: February 1st through February 28th, 2010
How to Enter: NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. Entrants must write a 250 word essay and tell us what you love about your body and what 3 things you would say to someone who's struggling with self love. Along with your entry please include two jpeg pictures that best represent yourself. Email your entry to [email protected].
There is a $10 non refundable application fee. Model search entries can be made by email to [email protected] or women can also enter by visiting the RE/DRESS NYC store on February 20th from 5:00pm to 8:00pm, where Luke will be shooting in house and taking applications.
Fee: A $10 processing fee must be paid to [email protected]. at time of entry. Please reference the email address/name that you used for your essay and photo entry. If you're entering in person on Feb 20th, only cash will be accepted.
Prizes: The Grand Prize winner will be the featured model in the first Re/Dress NYC campaign by Lucaspictures. The featured model will also be featured in 18PLUS at Plus Model Magazine.
Second prize winner will receive a photo shoot with Lucaspictures.
Third prize winner will receive $100 Gift Certificate to Re/Dress NYC.
Expenses: All expenses incurred during the application process is the sole responsibility of the participant. Expenses to and from the campaign photo shoot is the sole responsibility of the winner. Expenses to and from the photo shoot with Lucaspictures is the sole responsibility of the 2nd prize winner.
Winner Notification: Winners will be notified by email.
The winner will be announced on PLUS Model Radio (date to be announced).
